On the Verge of Meaning

This is a blog about finding, creating, and sharing the meaning and meanings we make for ourselves in this short, precious time we have to do so.

At its heart, this blog is for existentialists who teeter on the verge of the dark abyss from time to time -- and who want to (re)orient themselves towards brighter vistas. Such an orientation takes thoughtful contemplation, but also often concrete action. To make meaning we must often make decisions. As we construct a sense of agency we come closer to feeling free, even amid the many constraints that life imposes. This blog explores those feelings, decisions, and actions that come to characterize who we are, even if who we are is a dynamic construction process.

At the same time, the name is gentle poke at all those – including yours truly – who take themselves a bit too seriously from time to time. In fact, this blog isn’t really about finding meaning (which would be kind of like finding a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow) but rather enjoying the process of creating meaning (which is more like having fun searching for that elusive pot o’ gold). By sharing my own process with you, dear reader, I hope to be more intentional about the journey and perhaps more carefree about the destination.

The posts will alternate in a rather irregular way between serious and silly. This is a genuine representation of myself but also, frankly, the world.

I hope you find yourself also on the verge of meaning, perhaps with some inspiration from my own meanderings.
